#9240 Scripting capabilities
Nov. 4, 2016, 4:36 a.m.
(This comes from an earlier IRC conversation, re-posting here so it isn't lost.)

One feature that I think would be cool in an email client is scripting — basically the ability to perform actions when receiving mail that matches specific criteria.

This could allow for the automatic sorting of mail based on subject, sender etc that other email clients implement via "rules", as well as more advanced functionality like running specific external commands.

It could also be extended past just receiving mail, maybe allowing scripts to generate mail templates etc — although I suppose this could be automated via screen / tmux for the console version anyway.

I don't expect this for the initial release, it was just an idea that came to me earlier.

Why not a C/C++ customization API like the one in 4coder ? It should be a standard in every application!

Interesting,

I've been going with the basics to fulfill Ave's stated goals (harder to meet otherwise). However, much like, say, 4coder grew to include new features, the same holds true for this mail client. Grateful for the suggestions; I've created a FEATREQS markdown on my repo for compelling feature requests like this one.
